In MCU-based systems with limited interface resources, achieving high-resolution image display has always been a challenge. The QSPI (Quad Serial Peripheral Interface) display solution by Yousee Display is designed to address this issue. By utilizing QSPI technology, this solution enables faster data transmission while significantly reducing pin count, offering a clear advantage over traditional SPI communication.

Key Features and Implementation

The QSPI display solution stands out for its high-speed data transmission and minimal interface resource requirements. There are two implementation paths: using driver ICs with native QSPI support, or adopting a bridge IC to convert standard signals to QSPI-compatible communication.

The solution supports a maximum resolution of 800×480, 16-bit color depth (64K colors), and a refresh rate ranging from 30Hz to 60Hz. It is ideal for static or semi-dynamic image display applications such as dashboards, charts, or information screens, but not suitable for high-speed video playback.

Mass-Produced QSPI Display Modules

Yousee Display currently offers a range of QSPI display modules in mass production, covering various mainstream sizes to meet different application needs:

●  1.43" 466×466

●  2.23" 200×480

●  3.5" 640×480

●  4.3" 480×272

●  4.3" 800×480

●  5.0" 800×480

●  7.0" 800×480

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is the maximum resolution supported by the QSPI solution?

A: Due to transmission speed limitations, the maximum supported resolution is 800×480, depending on the performance of the customer's main controller.

Q: Does the IC have built-in storage?

A: No, the current IC used in the solution does not include built-in storage.

Q: What type of IC is used?

A: A bridge IC (conversion chip) is used to enable QSPI communication.

Q: How does the company implement QSPI connectivity?

A:●  Native QSPI method: Some driver ICs come with a built-in QSPI interface and can be connected directly via FPC.

   ●  Bridge IC method: A conversion IC is SMT-mounted on the FPC to enable QSPI data transmission with the main controller.

Q: What IC brands and models are currently in use?

A: Currently using the TR14890S from Germany-based DITR. More high-performance, high-reliability ICs will be introduced in the future.

Q: How does the QSPI solution perform on high-resolution displays?

A: The solution supports 16-bit color depth (64K colors), with a refresh rate of 30Hz to 60Hz, depending on the customer's MCU performance. It is suitable for image display but not optimized for video playback.

Q: Who is the target customer for this solution?

A: The QSPI display solution is targeted at customers using low-end MCU platforms but requiring high-resolution display performance, such as in industrial control, handheld devices, and consumer electronics.
